We have a variety of volunteering opportunities available for your company or for you as an individual. From running CV-writing workshops and professional skills sessions with young people to language skills support and conversation club at our women’s programme, we would welcome any opportunity to work with you in this way.

/ why work with our young people

The benefits it could bring to your business include;

  • Work with young people, who offer fresh new ideas and can deliver projects that your company has not had the time or skills to carry out
  • Identify and train future talent to fill specific skills gaps
  • Existing employees gain supervisory and mentoring experience
  • Help to meet your CSR targets and increase involvement in the local community

Our Partnerships Manager will make sure trainees are ready to hit the ground running from the start.

/ how you can work with our young people

There are a number of ways you or your business could get involved;

Work placements are full-time for four weeks, giving trainees opportunities to gain the skills that employers need, like problem solving and commercial awareness

Mentor a trainee – help to build their confidence and employability skills. It can also help you to create a talent pipeline into your business as well as developing the skills of existing staff

Work shadowing – invite a trainee to observe employees in the workplace to get an idea of their role and gain a better understanding of what employment is like in a particular field

Mock interviews – help trainees to practice their interview techniques, put together an award winning CV, set up a LinkedIn Account to help them get spotted by employers

Insight visits – deliver a talk either at your work place or at City Gateway to give trainees relevant, up-to-date information about your industry

Judge a challenge or competition at one of our events held throughout the year. Set a stimulating challenge and provide feedback on the results. This is a great way to spot new talent

work with our women and families

Volunteering for our Women’s Programme will help the women we support grow in confidence, gain independence, access employment and develop skills in a supportive community environment.

For many of the women we support, that starts with learning to speak English. As part of our ESOL (English for speakers of other languages) provision, we run a conversation club for students who are not ready for, or not able to commit to, an accredited course. The sessions are led by a tutor and based on a different topic each week. Volunteers have conversations with our students on the topic and lead them through activities, whether that’s asking for items in the local supermarket or filling in a form for their children to register with the local doctor’s.

Conversation club runs for two hours every Monday (during term-time) from 10am-12pm. We are ideally looking for volunteers who can support on a regular basis.

If you’re interested in getting involved in this, please see below for how to contact us.
