In December 2022 we launched our partnership with One Million Mentors (1MM). Since then, 51 young people have benefitted from the support of a dedicated mentor, providing advice, guidance and professional expertise to help them develop their skills and progress in their future careers.

The programme continues to grow with 32 City Gateway learners currently enrolled. Whether a young person is on our Route to Employment course or is undertaking an apprenticeship, they are offered access to this fantastic mentoring opportunity.

For some it’s about fine-tuning professionalism and productivity and building confidence, for others it’s more about exploring different industries and finding the right direction for their career path to take.

Omar is a City Gateway student. He joined the mentor programme as he was unsure about his future career path. Omar says of the programme; “it has been a life-changing experience for me. The program has helped me improve my confidence and communication skills by providing me with opportunities to interact with new people. I am grateful for the guidance and support I have received from my mentors and the program. Overall, I highly recommend the One Million Mentors program to anyone who is looking to gain valuable skills and guidance in their career journey.”

Not only is the programme great for the students and apprentices, the mentors also really enjoy the interactions with young people and being able to pass on their knowledge, experience and advice. Aden is one of the mentors on the programme; “I think mentoring allows the mentee to explore topics with someone, that they may not otherwise have an opportunity to do so. If the mentee has clear areas that they would like to focus on, this program really allows them to discover and learn more about these. I think one hour is the right time to allow for a really good discussion and for the mentee and mentor to achieve a good outcome.”
