Head of Fundraising and Partnerships

Job purpose

The Head of Fundraising and Partnerships at City Gateway occupies a central role with the primary responsibility of formulating and executing comprehensive fundraising and partnership strategies. Working closely with the CEO, Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the Fundraising Manager, and the Business Development Manager, this role serves as a linchpin in propelling City Gateway’s mission forward, making a substantial contribution to the organisation’s income and resource expansion. This position is fundamental for cultivating and stewarding partnerships through skilled account management, resulting in sustainable income, increased volunteer engagement, and an expanded pool of employer resources for our charity.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Overall leadership in fundraising and partnerships: As the fundraising leader, this role bears the primary responsibility for driving all fundraising and partnership activities at City Gateway. This encompasses Corporates, Charitable Trusts & Foundations, Statutory and Individuals. By providing strategic direction and oversight, this position ensures a coordinated and results-driven approach to fundraising and partnership development.
  • Strategic support: Collaborate closely with the Board of Trustees and CEO to strategically allocate their time and efforts in partner engagement. By enhancing their roles in engaging new prospects and nurturing key relationships, this support aids in the growth and diversification of funding sources.
  • Corporate partnerships: Lead the acquisition of new and multi-year fundraising income as well as learner career opportunities from Corporate Partners. This necessitates adapting strategies to align with the wider organisational Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). It also requires proactive efforts in research, networking, and relationship-building with prospective partners. Additionally, it involves translating media partnership exposure into tangible outcomes.
  • Employee giving and volunteer engagement: Take the lead in developing employee giving products and events that not only maintain but also enhance partnerships, ultimately increasing sustainable income. The focus here is on improving individual giving and volunteer experiences to drive a notable increase in income from these channels.
  • Employer engagement collaboration: Forge strong collaborative relationships with the Business Development Manager to ensure synchronised approaches in applications to both new and existing corporate partners. Specifically focus on the growth of employer opportunities in Business Administration and IT apprenticeships. Actively seek opportunities for crossover engagement with City Gateway, such as Pro Bono support, work placements, career development opportunities, or volunteering. These efforts significantly contribute to resource growth.
  • Team support: Provide guidance and support to the Fundraising Manager and Business Development Manager in data analysis to enhance conversion rates and optimise bid and report writing, particularly at key points in the year. This collaborative approach ensures the efficient management of the fundraising pipeline and corporate partnerships.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Build trust and foster relationships with various segments of the organisation, such as the Coaching & Mentoring Team and Marketing Team. Develop an in-depth understanding of the programme delivery in City Gateway to effectively convey their stories and impact to partners.
  • Records maintenance: Uphold rigorous standards in maintaining accurate, timely, and comprehensive records of all fundraising and partnership activities on the CRM database. This commitment to record-keeping ensures transparency and accountability, ultimately contributing to the securement and retention of income.
  • Progress reporting: Foster transparency, accountability, and facilitates strategic decision-making processes by regularly preparing data-driven reports that highlight progress against fundraising targets and key partnership activities for the Board of Trustees, CEO and SLT.
  • Professional growth: Actively engage in ongoing professional development to ensure skills and knowledge remain current.
