Functional Skills Tutor
Job purpose
The Functional Skills Tutor will be responsible for the delivery of Functional Skills English up to level 2. This will include the planning and delivery of high quality teaching, learning and assessment to groups of students aged 16-25. They will also be responsible for examination scheduling and revision/re-sit workshops.
The Functional Skills Tutor will create a welcoming and safe space where learning and achievement is enabled for some of the most vulnerable young people in London. The post-holder must be committed to ensuring that these young people achieve their qualification and have a passion to see them succeed. They will work consistently with other coaches, managers and employers to plan effective interventions to support learners to achieve and progress, no matter what their starting point.
Role and Responsibilities
- Developing engaging and effective schemes of work for Functional Skills English courses to contractual requirements.
- Delivering engaging, inclusive and relevant lessons for Functional Skills English, ensuring its accessibility for those with barriers to learning.
- Building one-to-one relationships with learners in order to set and assess progress on learning aims.
- Administrative duties for course tracking and funding requirements, including daily use of our database system, PICs.
- Engaging with quality management processes to ensure that teaching maintains and improves OFSTED standards.
- Meeting required attendance, punctuality, retention and achievement targets for courses as set Head of Curriculum.
- Complete qualification administration to required standards for awarding body and verified by IQA/EQA.
- Working with other delivery team members (including the Coaching Team) to highlight learners’ needs and to maximise retention of learners.
- Bringing strategic ideas and support to the Youth Programmes team by engaging with team meetings and connecting teaching to the wider aims of the department.
- Ensuring that use of the online student hub is incorporated into curriculum planning and delivery for responsible subjects taught.
- Ensuring that content is contributed and monitored on the online student hub against its relevance to both subject content and learner engagement.
- Other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the line manager or Head of Department.
- Post-holder will actively follow City Gateway policies.
- Post-holder will maintain an awareness and observation of Fire and Health & Safety Regulations.
