our traineeships

Our traineeship programme prepares young people aged 16–24 for employment, further training or an apprenticeship.

Our traineeship includes;

  • a high-quality work experience placement in roles such as social media marketing, business administration and sales
  • training to prepare you for work, from writing a standout CV and cover letter, to interview preparation and what to expect in the workplace
  • an opportunity to get your maths and/or English functional skills up to level 2, if you need them
  • a Digital Essential Skills qualification at Level 1

One potential outcome of the traineeship is the opportunity to apply for one of our exclusive office-based apprenticeships with top employers in the City.

/ is City Gateway right for me?

Our mission is to work with young people who have been impacted by social and economic inequality. You may have been in care or faced challenges of unstable housing or homelessness. You may be a young carer, be in debt, have had criminal justice involvement or had to deal with substance abuse or bringing up a child as a lone parent.

You may have faced other challenges that have prevented you from reaching your full potential. Whatever your previous experiences may have been, we are here to work with you to achieve your goals.

Our Traineeship programme is for you if you;

  • are aged 16-24
  • live in London
  • are not in full time education
  • are not in employment or are in part time work that is not your chosen career and you work less than 16 hours per week. (You will need to be able to commit to a course with us which will be up to full time when on work experience placement)
  • do not already have a Level 4 or above qualification

/ why choose City Gateway?

City Gateway is not like going back to school or college, here we treat you as adults, teaching you the practical skills needed for work and your future career.

We have a number of exclusive apprenticeship opportunities available to City Gateway trainees, which you will have the opportunity to apply for at the end of your traineeship.

Did you know your learning experience can be personalised to your way of thinking? We have partnered with Cognassist, whose Neurodiversity Assessment tool will help identify just how your mind works and identify any potential areas of support you have so we can personalise your learning and help you to achieve your goals. We have teamed up with The Digital Nomad Project to offer City Gateway learners an exciting opportunity to develop their digital skills alongside their Traineeship programme. By completing both courses you will gain the skills, qualifications and expertise to help you explore the possibility of working in the digital industry. For more information click here >

/ how long is the traineeship?

Our traineeships range from 3-6 months in length. You will need to come into our hub in East London between 1-3 days a week, depending on which course you are on.

You will be required to attend 5 days a week for the duration of your work experience placement.

/ success stories

If you’re unsure what you want to do or where to start we can help with a bit of inspiration from two of our past trainees who has been in the same position as you.

Our apprentice Shayon secured a placement with NSPCC after attending City Gateway, and Adetayo secured an apprenticeship with the global law firm Dentons.
