City Gateway’s Traineeship programme prepares young people aged 16–24 for employment, further training or an apprenticeship through training, coaching and work experience.
We have a Traineeship programme which will give you the skills and work experience employers are looking for in the people they hire. And if you need them, we will also help you get your maths and/or English functional skills up to level 2. Our Traineeship programme aims to help you achieve a sustained job, apprenticeship or further education outcome that is appropriate to your skills and ambitions.
One potential outcome is our office-based apprenticeships, with top employers in the City, in areas such as administration, customer service specialist, team leader/supervisor and departmental manager.
If you’re unsure what you want to do or where to start we can help with a bit of inspiration from someone who has been in the same position as you. Our apprentice Shayon secured a placement with NSPCC after our Traineeship programme, watch this video to learn more:
/ what is a Traineeship?
In a nutshell, a Traineeship prepares you for work. You will have training and support from tutors and coaches to prepare you for every step along the way, from writing a stand out CV and cover letter, to interview preparation and what to expect in the workplace. You will also receive first-hand experience thanks to work experience placements with top employers, all of whom have partnered with City Gateway as they want to support your development as much as we do. If you need it, you will have the chance to get your maths and/or English functional skills up to level 2. You will also gain a Digital Essential Skills qualification at Level 1 to equip you for the world of work or further education.
/ why a Traineeship?
A Traineeship supports you to get into a job or an apprenticeship, essentially helping you get your foot in the door. Traineeships can be a more successful route into employment rather than a direct application to a job or an apprenticeship as trainees have the opportunity to sample what the working environment is like, and employers get to see just what you’re capable of, which can lead to apprenticeship opportunities with those employers.
/ is City Gateway right for me?
Our mission is to work with young people who have been impacted by social and economic inequality. And we know that as a result of this inequality, circumstances in your life may have held you back previously. You may have been in care or faced challenges of unstable housing or homelessness. You may be a young carer, be in debt, have had criminal justice involvement or had to deal with substance abuse or bringing up a child as a lone parent. Or you may have faced other challenges that have prevented you from reaching your full potential. Whatever your previous experiences may have been, we are here to work with you to achieve your goals.
We are not a college. We are a charity and we rely on funding in order to be able to deliver the programmes we do. And we receive funding specifically to support young people who have faced these challenges in life.
Our Traineeship programme is for you if you;
- are aged 16-24
- live in London
- are not in full time education
- are not in employment or are in part time work that is not your chosen career and you work less than 16 hours per week. (You will need to be able to commit to a course with us which will be up to full time when on work experience placement)
- have faced any of the challenges mentioned above
As you go through our enrolment process we will be asking you to share paperwork relating to the above.
Our Traineeship programme is not for you if you;
- already have the skills and experience needed to find an apprenticeship or work
- are still in year 11 or over the age of 24
- are already in paid employment working 16 or more hours
- already have a Level 4 or above qualification
