Limehouse Youth Centre
Limehouse Youth Club is a drop-in youth centre in the shadow of Canary Wharf (next to Westferry DLR station). The centre offers evening and weekend youth work, school holiday programmes & other services to young people.
We partner with a range of other organisations to offer cutting edge youth work sessions which connect with young people where they are - recent projects have included Quit Smoking, Street Dance Classes and a Hip-Hop Shakespeare workshop with Sir Ian McKellen and MOBO winning, Akala.
The centre’s focus has been on bringing a cohesive community approach to addressing local youth problems and now offers a community gym facility, a climbing wall, sports sessions, a girls-only night and a music studio where young people are encouraged to record positive lyrics. As in all our work we’re continuing to develop our ideas and listen closely to our target group.
Youth in the community
Limehouse has also been a focus for getting young people to run their own events for the community funded by the Youth Opportunity Fund. The Youth Opportunity Fund gives us the scope to encourage passionate young people to apply for funding themselves for the activities and events that they know will have the biggest impacts on their lives. Projects from this past year include; a video on local drug problems, an outdoor sports residential, a 5-a-side football program, a community gym and a new music studio.
