Outreach
Finding positive things for young people across Tower Hamlets to do with their time has been at the heart of City Gateway’s work from the very beginning. From football coaching and music studio sessions to craft workshops and West End musicals, we pride ourselves on always listening to the people who best know the community’s needs – the youth themselves.
The guys on the outreach team are the first point of contact that people across the Borough have with City Gateway and the team’s ability to positively engage with people in a range of difficult situations is one of our great successes as an organisation.
While the young people we work with have real potential, all too often they are unmotivated and lack positive role models and inspiration to want to change their lives. One of the biggest challenges we face is opening their eyes to what they could achieve and persuading them that it's worth committing to - this is where the work of our outreach team in building relationships with every young person is vital.
Our outreach team regularly use our double decker bus to put on multi-media taster sessions in the heart of the community, run 5-a-side football tournaments, catch up with people as they shop in the local markets and even go door to door looking for young people who are registered as leaving school but not moving on to anything new. Our new base at Limehouse Youth Club provides a fixed location where they are able to come and hang out in the evenings or attend taster training sessions during the day.
