What a delightful Sunday Launch!

This Sunday sees the launch of two new City Gateway projects... with the help of a team of volunteers from Moorhouse Consulting!

A two day volunteering project will see work done to a garden at the City Gateway Women's Project and work to smarten up City Gateway's Limehouse Youth Club, which it runs with Poplar HARCA. The Sunday will then see two community events running at the centres - the first to get women more closely involved in a new community garden project (working with gardening charity Groundworks) and the second the launch of new Sunday openings at the drop-in youth club.

Half the team from ‘APM Project Management Company of the Year’ Moorhouse Consulting is taking part in a fundraising bike ride, for City Gateway and Cancer Research, whilst the other half is getting their hands dirty through the volunteering project itself.

The programme and project management advisory specialists hope to raise over £10K for Cancer Research UK and City Gateway – City Gateway connects with the local women and disadvantaged young people of Tower Hamlets, running programmes which engage them, train them and provide them with the skills and opportunities they need to enter work.

The event is in two parts, the first, a sponsored ‘bike run’ that will see a team of twenty run and cycle 360 miles from Milford Haven, West Wales to London, non-stop over forty-eight hours.  At the same time, a second team will spend time with City Gateway and the people of Tower Hamlets, renovating a Women’s Centre and a Youth Centre, using money raised by their colleagues on the Bike Run.

Managing director Dom Moorhouse said he was delighted his team were thinking innovatively and rolling their sleeves up to help two such diverse causes.

Dom said: “This will be our fourth ‘Bike Run’ as a company, but the first time we have combined the event with charity work ‘on the ground’, helping people in the local community.  We are delighted that many of our clients, colleagues, family and friends are participating in all aspects of this Charity Challenge.

“It means a lot to us to be able to support our local community.  As well as raising important funds and undertaking the renovation projects, we’re also pleased to be offering some additional skills to those that use the centres, and will be running training sessions on CV building and interviewing techniques.  We’re delighted to be able to pass on our expertise in these areas to people who might normally struggle to access this type of support.”

Dom said: “There is no doubt that this will be a demanding physical challenge but everyone is keen to better last year’s huge effort from Gretna to London and there will be a superb team spirit. This year’s Bike Run route will be mostly off-road, making the event even more challenging. Navigational skills will be paramount! Lets just hope that our bikes and legs hold up and the weather is kind to us!”
