Bringing Hope

City Gateway is a charity dedicated to bringing hope to the local communities of Tower Hamlets - we were set up by a group of City workers keen to support the community around them.

We run women’s projects, youth training, a youth centre and a social enterprise hub - offering disadvantaged individuals everything from community events and drop-in youth clubs through to apprenticeship schemes and the chance to develop their own business ideas.

100 Women

We’ve kicked off our exciting new 100 Women scheme, a range of volunteering opportunities alongside a project to capture the stories of 100 women who use our services. If you’re organisation is interested in getting involved or better yet supporting & sponsoring a course please get in touch with Kate . This month saw our first adult women ITQ apprentices take their first module exams at the centre and they’re keen to get real work experiences as the course develops.

Skills For London Awards

Congratulations to Safia Altaf who won the “Skills for Life Award” at the Skills for London Awards, presented by Lee McQueen at Madame Tussauds earlier this month. Before coming to City Gateway Safia lacked self-confidence and was struggling to find work. Safia now works for Denton Wilde Sapte whilst furthering her study in IT at City Gateway as an apprentice. She has truly come a long way. Our training team now works with over 150 formerly NEET young people at any one time but continues to need the support of partner organisations to offer apprenticeship placements to our trainees.

New Enterprise & Apprenticeships Centre

We are very excited to be moving into a new centre at Heron Quays at the end of the month, thanks to our partners the Canary Wharf Group. The space will house our main offices, our social enterprise hub and some of our apprenticeship training. It’ll be a great professional environment for young people to be working & learning in.

It’s a very exciting move for us and we’ll be needing a lot of new equipment - If you have any spare chairs, tables, shelves, fridges, vacuum cleaners, sofas or other useful office items that you’d be interested in donating then Daniel would love to hear from you.
