At an awards ceremony at City Hall last night Danny Fitzgerald, a young person who has come right through our training onto an apprenticeship with HSS Hire, was voted 'London ESF Participant of the Year'.
 
The inagural Awards showcased the talent and skills and employment-related achievements of people and organisations in receipt of ESF across London.

An east London social enterprise has been labelled a national example of good practice for its work with young people.

City Gateway, which provides training and support for young people out of education and employment in Tower Hamlets, one of the most deprived boroughs in the country, will be included in a report by Ofsted, the education inspectorate.

150 local women and corporate volunteers today came together at the City Gateway Women‟s project for the launch of a new Literacy Lunch volunteering scheme . The programme is part of the charity‟s new „Volunteering Ten Minutes From Your Office‟ initiative, giving City and Wharf workers volunteering opportunities they can take up in their lunch breaks or straight after work. The Literacy Lunch project addresses poor adult literacy rates by offering businessmen and women the chance to mentor local women within an informal and fun environment.

In celebrating its 10th Anniversary City Gateway is launching a new initiative to encourage businesses, office workers and local residents to get involved in a range of opportunities accessible in just 10 minutes from Canary Wharf or the City.

SPURS and England striker Peter Crouch visited the Limehouse Youth Club to encourage a new community initiative.

Run jointly by City Gateway and housing association Poplar HARCA, the centre provides free sports-based training and apprenticeships for NEETs - young people not in education, employment or training.
