Limehouse Youth Centre
Working in partnership with Poplar HARCA and LBTH, we have stepped up to help deliver in this previously underused facility in the heart of Limehouse. The centre was launched as part of our Summer programme and now opens every week night with an average attendance of 50 young people and hosts a wide variety of courses throughout the day.
The centre’s focus has been on bringing a cohesive community approach to addressing local youth problems and now offers a community gym facility, a climbing wall, sports sessions, a girls only night and a music studio where young people are encouraged to record positive lyrics. Like all our work we’re continuing to develop our ideas and listen closely to our target group to find out exactly what it is they’re looking for.
Limehouse has also been a focus for getting young people to run their own events for the community by applying for funding from the Youth Opportunity Fund. The Youth Opportunity Fund gives us the scope to encourage passionate young people to themselves apply for funding for the activities and events they know will have the biggest impacts on their lives. Projects that they’ve headed up this past year include a video on local drug problems, an outdoor sports residential, a 5-a-side football program, a community gym and a new music studio.
