Lansbury Lodge
City Gateway began jointly managing the Lansbury Lodge Community Centre at the start of 2007 and we have used this new base to develop a project offering activities for the whole community.
A small sample of the inclusive family activities running include a mothers and babies group, ballet and dance classes for children, women's fitness classes and a food co-op.
In April 2007 we secured LDA funding for a women's engagement project linked to the build up for the 2012 Olympics. The project, aimed at unemployed and workless women of all ages and backgrounds, seeks to address their individual barriers to employment through a mix of accredited training, soft skill development, numeracy tuition, employability support and language teaching.
We provide childcare for all our courses and events, and seek to create an all female atmosphere that is safe and friendly. We have recently launched an IT drop-in cafe and a sewing micro-enterprise, and aim to encourage the women we work with to set up their own self-sustaining projects, developing leadership and enterprise skills.
On the last day she burst into tears saying how much she would miss it. The time out of the house and the friends she made were really important and she was afraid she would lose these things. Kamrun and her family remain in regular contact with the course tutor.
