Summer is here and at City Gateway things are hotting up too - we're reallyexcited to finally be able to relaunch our eNewsletter (and our new website)! Many exciting things have been happening and I hope this newsletter will give you a good taster of what we're up to.

We had an amazing time at our Annual Showcase event up at RBS - it was great to see so many of you there. We have progressed even more young people through our courses and apprenticeships, our Women's Project is growing so fast we need to take on even more staff and our Limehouse Youth Club is gearing up for our Summer Programme with 6 whole weeks jam packed with events for the community and young people in Tower Hamlets. Anyway, we've got so much to fit in that I'd better stop now...

Who we are...

Started in 1999, City Gateway is a Tower Hamlets-based charity and we aim to alleviate poverty, unemployment and social and economic exclusion, helping individuals to develop their potential and realise their ambitions by providing training and progression programmes.

This e-Newsletter is being sent to you because either you or your company directly supports the work we do, whether you know it or not, and we want to acknowledge and thank you for your hard work, and in the process let you know what we are getting up to.

Annual Showcase 2008

We had a great time at the City Gateway Showcase Event on 27th May, generously hosted by RBS in their wonderful Bishopsgate offices, celebrating a packed-to-bursting year of achievement in continuing to bring hope to Tower Hamlets.

Headlining was Rt Hon Stephen Timms MP with an inspirational speech, and reports and presentations covering every angle of what we do, and even a special City Gateway rap by Suzy, Jamal and Faisal! Thanks to everyone who came along for making it such a great and encouraging evening - we can do nothing without the support of all of the different and To read more about this year's Showcase please click here.

Women's Project Update

Our keep fit classes have been so popular that we now have 2 classes on Mondays and gym visits on Wednesdays, and our nutrition course was a great success teaching women how to make healthy recipes and eat for fitness. These women certainly are becoming empowered... quite literally!

The young attendees to our ballet classes have become so proficient that they are now learning to dance Swan Lake! and like Wimbledon our Childcare course is in such high demand that our current one is full and people may start camping outside for places! Our IT course with ongoing entry level classes and spreadsheet masterclasses is churning out digitally empowered women - IT's all good!

Of course, all of our work is only made possible due to the hard work of our amazing volunteers and staff and to welcome our new member of staff, Natalie we went out for a team curry in Brick Lane.
Limehouse Youth Centre News

Limehouse

Limehouse Youth Centre is blossoming as we launch new events such as our Girls’ Night and a new NVQ Fitness course, alongside our existing youth and community programmes.

Many young people who came on our Easter programme have kept on coming back to the PAYP programme and it has been really encouraging to see so many young people from different background coming to use the music studio and MC together. As we continue to reach out to the local community we continue uncovering different needs and opportunities, and ways in which we can impact Tower Hamlets.
