Bringing Hope

City Gateway is a charity dedicated to bringing hope to the local communities of Tower Hamlets - we run youth & women’s projects, working in partnership with neighbouring businesses.

With election fever sweeping across the country we were delighted to send a representative from our Women’s Project to an intimate all - party hustings at the start of the campaign. Last week the Minister for Skills came down to see the impact of the `Future Jobs Fund´ first hand, a scheme helping people break the cycle of long-term unemployment.

Running 10k for 10k

Recovered from this weekend’s marathon? Or perhaps keen to try running in a race instead of cheering from the side lines? Following on from last year’s success we’re aiming to enter a team of 30 runners into the British 10k London Run on Sunday 11th July.

If you’re up for the challenge, want to run alongside some of our staff & young people, or even if your organisation would like to enter a team of its own we’d love to hear from you! We’re aiming to raise £10,000 to massively improve the community fitness facilities available at Limehouse Youth Centre and need your help to do it! E-mail Anne to find out more or sign up.

100 Women

Last week we awarded over 100 certificates to women who have successfully completed English language or independence classes at our Women’s Project. On the 3rd anniversary of the project it was incredible to see how the project has grown and more excitingly to look ahead to its next phase.

We’re launching an innovative mixed CSR & ethnographic scheme at the centre which will see a wide range of corporate engagements whilst capturing the stories of 100 Women whose lives are impacted in time for the 100th International Women’s Day next year. We’re informally launching the scheme with a community event and open day on May 19th so contact Jerry for more information or if you’d like to come along.

Summer Volunteering

We know that the Summer is a popular time for volunteers keen to get out of the office and into the communities around them so why not drop Anne an e-mail to see if there’s some way your team can get involved with our work over the next few months. We like to get out of the office too so are planning a number of day trips, community events and even a gardening project.

Our training team itself continues to work hard throughout the Summer and if you’d like some hands on involvement in sessions or workshops there are some key possibilities there. We’;re also keen to speak with partners interested in referring young people onto our programmes over the school break.

A Summer of Social Enterprise

We’re incredibly excited to have secured some new funding for our Social Enterprise Hub which will allow us to really invest and support the enterprises we already have as well as new ones we’re developing. Have you considered supporting our work by making use of one?

Flavour Gateway is a professional catering service which launched just over a year ago with a 600 person event at the East Wintergarden - we’re confident they’ll be able to meet your requirements however big or small your need. Gateway Media is a digital media agency specialising in video work but with great design and web skills too. Also watch this space for the relaunch Gateway Motion - a youth led sports & events enterprise which will soon be hosting regular corporate Futsal tournaments.
