An east London social enterprise has been labelled a national example of good practice for its work with young people.

City Gateway, which provides training and support for young people out of education and employment in Tower Hamlets, one of the most deprived boroughs in the country, will be included in a report by Ofsted, the education inspectorate.

Our media social enterprise Gateway Media has won a contract to support Taylor Woodrow's major new project at Kings Cross Station. The award-winning media agency are producing a series of record-of-progress style video updates to be used for internal and external communication, highlighting the construction industry's move to using digital media as a more effective form of communication.

Shaal Karim, a former City Gateway Apprentice now working with Gateway Media, reflects on some of the ways his life has changed as the result of the training he has taken.

London, 24th March 2009 – This week sees the launch of a new video in which Hollywood star Sir Ian McKellen showed support for local business by lending his voice to be used on a promotional video for Gateway Media based in Whitechapel. Sir Ian, famed for roles as Magneto in X Men and Gandalf in Lord of the rings, was pleased to put his voice to good use. “He was a real star, his support has meant we can reach a wider audience and continue our growth as a new media social enterprise” said Gateway Media’s manager Simon Baker.

A NEW catering enterprise was launched at the City Gateway celebrations.

Based in Tower Hamlets, Flavour Gateway has been developed by the charity's Enterprise Hub. It is a social enterprise providing training and employment opportunities and high quality catering.

Menus will reflect the local area, with dishes ranging from South Asian specialties to traditional British cuisine.

Flavour Gateway will also be opening a community cafe at its premises in Poplar.

An exciting and innovative new catering enterprise called Flavour Gateway is being launched on Tuesday 10 March at the annual showcase event for local charity, City Gateway.  Targeting organisations across East London with their high quality and professional catering service, Flavour Gateway’s menus will be reflecting the multi-cultural tastes of the area with dishes ranging from South Asian specialities to traditional British cuisine.
