Take On An Apprentice
City Gateway Apprentices
Before applying for our apprenticeship programme, City Gateway trainees have completed 36 weeks training with us working toward their vocational specialism (IT, Customer Service, Youth Work, Beauty Therapy and Sports & Fitness Coaching), as well as attaining qualifications in ICT, Maths, English and completing an employability course.
Previous City Gateway Apprentices have been placed at a variety of corporate firms including; Canary Wharf Group, RBS, Lloyds Banking Group, SNR Denton, Reebok Gym, Phoenix Partners, Westbury Private Clients, HSS Hire and West Ham FC amongst many others.
Many of our apprentices have gone on to gain permanent employment with these firms while others have taken their experience into other businesses including HSBC and Fitness First.
What can an Apprentice do for me?
All our apprentices are trained and have the soft skills to succeed from day one. We work with you to ensure that they bring youth and enthusiasm into your workplace, and are quick to learn.
88% of employers working with City Gateway apprentices agreed that apprentices added considerable value to their business and 84% were very satisfied with the support we provided.
We are experienced in placing apprentices with major corporates in Canary Wharf and the City. All employer partners are supported by a dedicated relationship manager to ensure that you and the apprentice get the most out of the experience.
What can I do for an apprentice?
Apprenticeships are life-changing opportunities for individuals, giving them the knowledge and experience they need to make a start in life.
Apprenticeships are required for one year after which the Apprentice can complete a placement elsewhere or be supported straight into a job. We continue to train Apprentices during the initial 13 weeks (1-2 days/week), after which their placement can become full time.
Apprentices are employed directly by City Gateway, to help you reduce HR and Administrative commitments. Employers are asked to pay a minimum of £2.65/ per hour (national apprenticeship wage) but most employers decide to pay their apprentice national minimum wage or more. City Gateway then take care of the payroll concerns and invoice the employer directly.
After a year you can extend the placement, offer the apprentice permanent employment, or take on a new apprentice from our rolling programme.
'I can thoroughly recommend that there is no reason why apprentices cannot work in the financial services industry. Within all of these businesses there is a need for flexible, hard-working and bright young people. Many of the skills ranging from office support through to investing can be taught more effectively on the job and I strongly encourage all businesses large and small to meet with City Gateway to find out more! A difficult past for a young person does not need to mean a difficult future and it is time the opportunities in the city were made more accessible – apprenticeships are a good way to do this.'
