Apprenticeships

This year we have once again expanded our voluntary program which sees young people, who themselves have previously been on the edge of society, reaching out to help their peers by running sessions with our team. The volunteers become role models to the trainees we work with and also get a key opportunity to take responsibility for their actions and develop their own skills.

Our more formalised apprenticeship program has allowed us to take on 12 young team members over the past year, in roles across the organisation. The scheme offers great opportunities for the growth and personal development of all the individuals involved as well as giving us a pool of skilled local people to help continue our work in the community. We are delighted to say that in 2007 three of our apprentices progressed to become full time staff members.

Shahidul was mentioned in last year's Annual Review after excelling on both our Engage and Export courses, he went on to volunteer with the Gateway Motion team and help run sporting events and future courses.

His dedication made it an easy choice to offer him a 6 month apprenticeship which allowed him to work closely with our team and gain valuable experience of leadership, tuition and sports coaching in a working environment.
