Apprenticeship Placements

City Gateways’ Apprenticeships are courses for previously disengaged 16 to 24-year-olds which help prepare them for successful careers through a combination of on and off the job learning. On the job they gain experience while working with a partner company. Off the job they work towards a Level 2 National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) as well as gain key skills qualifications in numeracy and literacy.

"They have allowed our staff to develop and improve their communication skills, work with staff from different departments and give something back to the community within which we work"
Chris Newton, Berrymans Lace Mawer

How can you get involved?

We already deliver business admin/IT and sports apprenticeships (in conjunction with local firms such as Allen & Overy, Finsbury PR, Denton Wilde Sapte, Reebok, Fitness First and L.A Fitness).

We are seeking additional employers to provide 12 week (or more) placements with the apprentice working a minimum of 8 hours a week. Apprentices just need to be available for their day of training with City Gateway on Wednesdays. At the end of the three month placement there is the option of extending the role, though we expect most of our trainees to progress on elsewhere - allowing another apprentice to take over the role.

What’s the cost?

Your organisation will need to pay an expenses allowance of £20 a day, whilst we cover training costs. City Gateway will provide the employment contract to avoid any administrative or legal complications.

To arrange a meeting to discuss the apprenticeship programme please contact Sarah Webster on sarah.webster@citygateway.org.uk or via telephone on 0207 247 2202

Hands-on work experience while gaining qualifications; Empowering young people to achieve their full potential. We need your support and extra placements to make this possible.

"The apprenticeship scheme is without doubt the most successful and worthwhile link we have developed with our local community and we are delighted with the whole experience. The attitude of the individual involved has been first rate so much so that he has become an integral member of the team. I would highly recommend other company’s to seriously consider the scheme both from a community spirited point of view and from a commercial perspective"
Ian Mahoney, Reebok Gym

"City Gateway has kick started my life. Before I came here nothing was really happening for me. City gateway has motivated me and I now feel I’m able to motivate others"
Faisal Uddin, Apprentice
